For two weeks, the world has been transfixed by images of Iranians taking to the streets to demand the most basic human freedoms and rights. Watching these courageous men and women, I am reminded of a similar scene nearly two years ago in Burma, when tens of thousands of Buddhist monks peacefully marched through their nation’s streets. They, too, sought to reclaim basic human dignity for all Burmese citizens, but they were beaten back by that nation’s harsh regime.

Power is above all else a relationship. Power’s relation to needs is what defines it. The means used to fulfill a corresponding need constitutes power, and also suggests the potential for future forms of fulfillment. Since these needs are manifested in objects outside of man, he needs these objects to express his powers. But since man is part of nature, he too is an object; thus the reciprocal power-relationship of each man to all other men is based on a mutual recognition of each other’s needs.

Two different views of state-wide same sex marriage support based on the exact same data (or You can tailor your graph to support whatever conclusion you want to draw).
The chart on the left has the mid point between blue and red set at 50% support for same sex marriage. Only 8 states have that. The chart on the right sets the mid-point at the state in the middle of all the other states (Michigan at ~41%).
